Paying for College

Check out the following opportunities to obtain financial aid at Piedmont Community College:

Federal Pell Grant: Awards are based on financial need. A recipient must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Awards are based on two semesters of attendance per academic year. For information call the Financial Aid Office at 336-599-1181.

North Carolina Community College Grant Program: These state funds provide up to $1500 per year based on student need. Apply by filling out the FAFSA.

North Carolina Student Incentive Grants (NCSIG): These grants are administered by the NC College Foundation, Inc. Recipients must be legal residents of North Carolina, accepted for enrollment, or enrolled in good standing at an institution of higher education and must complete the FAFSA. Students are urged to apply by March 15.

Piedmont Community College Foundation Scholarships: The Piedmont Community College Foundation awards approximately 110 scholarships annually to deserving students. Scholarships are awarded based on academic standing and financial need. For the 2011—2012 academic year, scholarship application deadline is April 1, 2011 and October 14, 2011. Golden L.E.A.F. Scholars Program: Permanent residents of Caswell and Person Counties are eligible to apply for the new Golden Leaf Scholars program. Awards are made based on financial need and merit guidelines, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Curriculum students may receive up to $ 750 per semester. Occupational Extension students may receive up to $ 250 per semester. North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship (ESL): These grants will range from $100 to $2,800 for the year. Apply by filling out the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA).

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG): The ACG program awards grants to eligible financially needy students who complete a rigorous secondary school program of study. ACG is available during a student’s first and second academic years of undergraduate program. Value: $750 first-year awards for students graduating from high school after 1/1/2006; $1,300 second-year awards for students graduating high school after 1/1/2005. Students apply for an ACG by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Targeted Assistance Programs: These funds are available for students who enroll in the programs listed below. Funds are meant to help students who do not qualify for federal financial aid, scholarships, or other sources of funds, but who demonstrate financial need. Up to $ 800 per semester may be awarded for curriculum programs and up to $200 for continuing education programs.

North Carolina Model Teacher
Consortium: Reduced tuition, full payment of fees, and assistance with textbooks are available to employees of the Person County or Caswell County boards of education who are interested in becoming teachers and who enroll in university-transfer courses at PCC. Services are contingent upon funding by the North Carolina Legislature. Call the Consortium at 1-800-280-6985 or visit their website www.ncmtec.org for the latest information.
